Welcome to Footscray Rugby Club, a dedicated member of the Victorian Rugby Union, one of the oldest Victorian Rugby Union clubs and a Level 3 Good Sports Club.
84 YEARS YOUNG & STILL GOING STRONG!
Dear Rugby Friends,
As our club keeps growing, we have created a new website: http://footscrayrugby.org/
Please visit this website and make it your default Victorian rugby news website. It has separate sections for men, women and juniors, the news section contains great pictures and there is an enormous photo gallery of last season. Best of all, it has room for sponsors information and logos. After you've had a good look around the website, leave a message at the guest book for the ladies who have worked very hard on it the past month. This old website will soon cease to exist.
Pre-season 2013 will start Tuesday the 15th of January, 6:30pm at our club rooms. Bring runners, there will be a lot of running to get everybody in shape. The VRU 7's will start the 16th of February already. No time to waste!
New players are very welcome. Everybody who signs up, attends training and pays his fees will play! If you don't have prior rugby experience, we're happy to turn you into a rugged rugger!

AGM 2012 has been held, a new committee has been installed. Mostly the same as last year's, but with a few new faces. Hopefully we can make 2013 an even better year than 2012! Some of the highlights of 2012 were:
All 3 senior teams in the finals.
Josh Kaifa U20's state player of the year.
4 Footscray players who joined the big leagues interstate and overseas.
Alex Niedzwiecki in the Rebels Development squad.
2 Footscray U12's in the Victorian state team.
2013 will see the establishment of a Western District Ladies rugby team. The women will be training over summer every Thursday night from 6:30pm at the soccer ground next to our club rooms. All women who want to give rugby a try can join! Check the gallery for a picture of the women cooking and selling sausages to raise funds.
Every Thursday night between 5:30 and 7pm a group of juniors plus some parents play touch at the soccer ground next to the club rooms. Everybody, young or old, man or woman, is welcome to join in! We'll start again the 17th of January.
I have crunched the numbers for the past season, and we had exactly the same number of senior players, 108, as in 2011. But we lost more than 20 Chargers of course, so actually we had a 20% increase. Since 2009 we've had an increase of 83% in senior players! We hope to keep the trend going next year, we rarely had 60 players available, so we need to keep growing to remain a major force in Victorian rugby. Check out the Gallery for team photos of the most famous teams in Footscray rugby history. If anybody has a 1st grade team photo of 2007, I would love to get a file to add to the Gallery of Glory!
Congratulations to 2012's best & fairest:
Grade 1: Tim Diack
Grade 2: Sylvester Fuimaono
Grade 3: Jordan Teevale
President's Award: Luke Mears
Roy Leighton Award: Joel Deroon
All the stats for senior players for 2012 are now in the Resource Library!
If you used to play in the "Good Old Days" check if your stats live up to your stories at the bar in the Footscray 1967 to 2005 stats sheet, also in the resource library.
Footscray RUFC has been established since 1928 supporting 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th Grade teams, winning several premierships and producing 5 Wallabies along the way. We are located at the Henry Turner reserve, next to the VU and Footscray Park.
Ground Location: Footscray RUFC, on the corner of Farnsworth Ave & Myer Rd Footscray - Melways Reference 42 C2
Public Transport:
Bus lines 409 (Yarraville - Highpoint) and 472 (Williamstown - Moonee Ponds) pass by our ground (get off on Farnsworth Ave), but only once every 40 minutes in either direction. From Footscray Station you can also take tram 82, get off at the Droop Str / Ballarat Rd intersection, cross Ballarat Rd and walk into Farnsworth Ave. After the bend the road drops down to the river and you'll see our clubrooms at the bottom on your right.
